hmm i think in general its prolly a good idea, if you have friends or family who have memory problems, to ask if we wanna be told when we’re repeating something? bcos i think a lot of ppl instinctively say ‘you already told me this story’ and i can see why but tbh sometimes its p embarrassing and personally it makes me feel like theyre getting frustrated w/ me (even if i kno rationally thats prolly not the case) so yeah idk ask them how they want u 2 to respond in my onion
it always helps me feel less embarrassed (and less like they’re annoyed by me) if they point it out in a way that continues & encourages the conversation rather than just shutting it down
like:
“and my boss wanted me to visit this person…”
“you already told me this”
“Oh, sorry”is different from:
“and my boss wanted me to visit this person…”
“Oh I remember you telling me this, you had to see them and then when you got there they gave you this thing, right? that’s so cool, have you decided what you’re gonna do with it?”
“Yeah! I was thinking that I could…”yes me too!! thank u for adding this cos i *drumroll* completely forgot to lmao like this is one of the best ways to respond imo, i’ve also heard (in response to me asking if i’ve said something already) ‘you have, but i’d like to hear it again’ but what i like about your example is that it doesn’t call attention to the fact that you forgot, and (for me personally anyway) that’s a big thing
